Counting to find 'how many?'
1. For children who need help using their index finger.
Start by watching the video which discusses in detail the challenges of counting to find 'how many?'. This is called counting in one to one correspondence - pointing to each item in turn and giving it a number, and cardinality - knowing that the last number you say relates to how many items you have. It is about 4 minutes long.
We look at different early activities to help a child use their index finger/pointing finger.
A short video also looks at using your fingers to show 'how many' from 0 to 10.and demonstrates a quick game using a die.
