1. Basic rote counting
For children who need the very basics. Starting with 1, 2 and increasing to 3 when ready.

Activities to teaching the very basic expression '1, 2, 3, go' rather than 'ready steady go'. Suitable for babies upwards.

Nothing new here you just need to continue the previous activities introducing another number once the child is ready, until the child can count 0 -10 by rote. This may take some time. Make sure you are also visiting the next two sections 'number recognition' and 'counting to find how many'

Including zero and moving on from 3 to 5

You will need to make sure you have watched the video from tab 1. 'Teaching basic number skills'. Now you will learn when to introduce zero and continue learning how to count by rote 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

•More A4 number 'mats' so that you can work on the number path 0 to 5. Building up slowly.

•Resources also include a desk top number line 0 to 5 if working with a child who is happy to sit to a desk.

5. Arriving at 100

In the last unit we have focussed on counting in 10s, 5s and 2s, then the teen numbers. Now we look at filling in the gaps. We focus on counting through a decade at a time. Please make sure you have watched the video 'counting beyond 10' before you start.
